It’s winter Extension season, which is one of my two favorite seasons in my work year (the other is planting)! In fall I felt re-energized in my own research by watching my colleagues at Extension events in Maryland and Georgia, so this winter I’m committing to listening to at least as many winter season talks as I present. I’d like to prioritize events where I’m not also presenting (although I do typically stay for the full day when I’m presenting at in-person events), since this will help me diversify the range of topics and presenters I get to see.
The first event I attended was as soil health webinar hosted by OSU Extension. It was a great way to learn more about the vision and goals of their new soil fertility, soil health, and water quality specialists. I also learned that Extension agents in NW Ohio have done some great work on soil health over the last few years, and some of that work is summarized on their Soil Health Tour story map.

I found this story map to be particularly easy to navigate, since both the overview section and upper menu panel allowed you to move between stops easily. I also really enjoyed the way they integrated videos into the stops. I’ll definitely be sharing it as an example with my colleagues and students as we plan for future Extension and Outreach programming!
